Quality and safety
Certified engineers, independent review of safety-critical work, and a safety record we publish every year.
Halden builds systems that, if they fail, can hurt people. The quality system exists so that they do not, and the safety record is published so that customers can hold us to it.
Quality system
- Certified to ISO 9001 across all engineering centres and service regions.
- Functional safety work to IEC 61511 (process) and IEC 62061 (machinery), carried out by engineers certified by an independent body.
- Every safety instrumented system is independently reviewed by a Halden engineer not involved in its design before commissioning.
- Secure development of our own software products to IEC 62443-4-1.
- Factory acceptance testing against the agreed specification, with the customer present, before anything ships to site.
Safety on site
Our engineers work on live plants, often during maintenance windows when the plant is at its least familiar. Every site visit starts with the plant's permit-to-work process and our own job safety analysis.
| Measure | Last year |
|---|---|
| Lost-time incidents on Halden sites | 0 |
| Recordable incidents per million hours | 0.4 |
| Near misses reported | 1,120 |
| Near misses investigated and closed | 100 percent |
We count near misses as a positive: a rising number of reports with a falling number of incidents means people are speaking up. The year without a lost-time incident is written up in the newsroom.
Raising a concern
Anyone, including customers and suppliers, can raise a safety or quality concern through the contact page. Concerns go to the quality director, not to the project team involved.
